Maria Anwander and Ruben Aubrecht (both born in 1980, Austria, live in Berlin) are both working individually as conceptual artists. On an irregular base they join to work as a collective. With collaborative projects Anwander and Aubrecht had participated in residencies in Mexico City, Los Angeles, New York, Bilbao and now in Vienna – viennacontemporary 2017.
With her interventions Maria Anwander is exploring the edge of public and semipublic space. Her work was exhibited in Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen, Switzerland; in AC Institute, New York; Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein; Bilbao Arte Foundation; Museum Morsbroich; Moscow Museum of Modern Art; Casino Luxembourg – Forum d’art Contemporain; Museum of Contemporary Art of Vojvodina, Novi Sad; Kunsthalle Mainz, Palazzo Reale, Milano and Museo de Arte Carrillo Gille in Mexico City. Among other prices she has received the art award of the Darmstädter Sezession, the International Art Award of Vorarlberg.
Ruben Aubrecht is working as a video and computer artist, with more recent works that form a series of drawings. His work has been exhibited in Kunsthalle Tübingen, Tumba; Kunsthalle Recklinghausen; Kunsthalle Osnabrück; Museum Centre Krasnoyarsk; Weatherspoon Art Museum, Greensboro; Contemporary Art Center, Vilnius; Kunstmuseum St. Gallen; The Drawing Center, New York; Salt Beyoglu, Istanbul; The Nunnery, London and at the 3rd Moscow Biennale for Young Art.
He was nominated for the Berlin Art Prize. He received the Advancement Award of the Darmstädter Sezession and among others a studio grant in Istanbul, awarded by Senate Chancellery of Cultural Affairs Berlin.
With collaborative projects Anwander and Aubrecht had participated in residencies in Mexico City, Los Angeles, New York and Bilbao.
